Enrique Dueñas

During the year of the pandemic, my musical theatre training has changed tremendously, as it has for many other students across the world. One of the biggest challenges that I faced was writing my own original show. Instead of the usual Senior MT BFA Cabaret, our instructor encouraged us to create our own shows, and many of us did. Though I am not a genius behind the piano, I know how to make music, playing music from some of my favorite artists, Billy Joel and Elton John. This was my attempt and the beginnings of what can be a great film or stage musical.

 

Inspired by true events, Carry On: An Original Musical, tells a story about young love, miscommunication, an early pregnancy, adultery, broken marriage, and finding the right path. The film follows the Dominguez family as their marriage falls apart and they just cannot seem to be on the same page. The young couple are on opposite ends, where one wants to hold on and one wants to let go. A story that many of us can relate to, where we all just have to find a way to "carry on, on, and on."
